Stories are at the heart of our social and cultural heritage. As a photographer, my interest has always been in telling stories. Whether I’m taking corporate headshots, making environmental portraits or photographing food or product, I believe that there is always an element of storytelling involved in photography.
Successful communication relies on a clear narrative to engage an audience and in an increasingly digital landscape, visual narratives are an indispensable tool. Words are powerful but pictures are the difference between telling a story and showing a story, a universally understood language that is immediately accessible. As such, stories are used to raise awareness or address social issues, to convey information about a process, people, or events or to simply entertain. The fact is, stories, especially those told through images resonate with people on a deeper level. When viewers see the genuine people or processes taking place in a story it has a greater impact and will stay with them a lot longer.
Almost all organisations from charities and not-for-profit organisations to SMEs and big multinational corporations employ visual narratives in order to capture people’s attention and sustain engagement. This is done in many ways but most commonly through marketing campaigns and documentary records.
Every story is unique and my goal is to elevate businesses and individuals alike through visual storytelling, thereby promoting a more meaningful connection with target audiences.
